Petr Smetáček

Composer, pianist (and multi-instrumentalist), educator, and bandleader of Latin CZazz. From an early age he was fond of piano and music, especially classical, jazz, folk and later salsa too. Over the years he gradually started playing other musical instruments as well, such as Czech bagpipes and Afro-Cuban percussion, however, the piano remained at the center of his interest. He also started composing relatively soon.

Already during his school years at Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory in Prague, where he studied composition with phenomenal Karel Růžička Sr., he began performing with numerous ensembles in the Czech Republic and abroad, composing for some of them at the same time. Currently, in addition to leading his own band, he performs with, for example, Pragasón of Cuban singer Jorge Concepción, Klarissimo, or with Japanese soprano Yukiko Kinjo Smetáček, his wife.

Since 2010, he has also been active in publishing. To date, he has released two CDs ("Afro Cuban Suite" and "Los Rumberos Trio" – Radioservis), a popular-educational book titled "Afro-Cuban Music or the Many Flavors of Salsa" (only in Czech – Muzikus), and a range of sheet music (currently available via eNoty.eu). He has also recently begun publishing recordings of his compositions on streaming platforms.

As he has always enjoyed educating not only himself but also others, he began working as a piano teacher and principal accompanist at the Slaný Art School in 2017.

Jan Burian

A guitarist (and multi-instrumentalist), vocalist, and educator. At the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory - where he studied guitar, voice, composition, and arranging - he met a number of outstanding teachers and fellow students who later became his colleagues.

He currently collaborates with numerous artists, primarily from South America and Spain. South American music captivated him during his conservatory studies and has since become both a passion and a hobby. Although he specializes in this genre, he also enjoys playing classical music and other styles such as pop, jazz, blues, rock, folk, and standards. He performs as a solo / backing musician and a singer with various bands and orchestras in the Czech Republic and abroad. With his primary project, Los Rumberos (now Latin CZazz), he has toured extensively across the Czech Republic and Slovakia, as well as in countries such as France, Turkey, and Germany.

In addition to performing live, he devotes his time to teaching students, particularly guitar and voice. Over the years, he has also taken a liking to other instruments - such as the piano, Cuban tres, transverse flute, and percussion - for use in various projects. However, the Spanish guitar has become his primary and favorite instrument.
