The band Latin CZazz builds upon Petr Smetáček’s earlier successful "Los Rumberos" projects; after twenty years of active performance in the Czech Republic and abroad, the group’s genre focus and repertoire evolved to the point where, in 2026 (following a family hiatus), they inspired him to change both the name and the overall concept of the project…

The core of the new lineup features a trio of well-known, seasoned musicians, tightly knit from years of touring together: Petr Smetáček (piano and vocals), Jan Burian (guitar and vocals) and Carlo Zegarra (percussion and Andean flutes). Their performances feature spirited Latin American rhythms and original compositions, mostly instrumental pieces and songs (with Czech lyrics) by Petr Smetáček, complemented by several flute pieces by Carlo Zegarra that are imbued with the spirit of the Peruvian sun.

Under its previous name, the project achieved significant success, including the release of the first Czech salsa CD ("Afro Cuban Suite“, 2010), while the second album ("Los Rumberos Trio“, 2012) was subsequently released by Radioservis, the prestigious label of Czech Radio. Also noteworthy is their highly successful opening act for the Buena Vista Social Club - arguably the most famous Cuban orchestra - at the Prague Congress Centre in 2014. Furthermore, bandleader Petr Smetáček authored a publication dedicated to the genre in which the band operates ("Afro-Cuban Music, or Many Flavors of Salsa“, Muzikus 2014) and has also promoted salsa through lectures, educational concerts and the composition of stylistically appropriate pieces for young people (he continues composing to this day and currently publishes via eNoty.eu). Latin CZazz then enters the scene by successively releasing three original recordings (across all major streaming platforms) and staging a successful September premiere at the Slaný Jazz Club, which was completely sold out (2026).
